VILLAGE HALL UPDATE

Village Hall Restoration Project

Work continues on this very ambitious fund raising project. There have been some disappointments - the most major one being the lack of commitment by the National Lottery to providing money for community buildings. However, pressure is being put on the ‘powers that be’ by Community Groups, Local Councillors & MPs, and all organisations involved in rural issues so hopefully when the next distribution of funds comes available it will include money for Village Halls.

In the meantime we have not been idle. £6000 has been pledged by KBC and £31000 by NCC (although this is conditional on raising funding for the rest of the project).

We have also entered a competition organised by waste recycling company WREN and are through to the second round! The judges will be visiting the Hall in the next month to see our project and we plan to make a favourable impression. So keep your fingers etc crossed that we make it through to round 3 and are then successful in the final. The prize is £125,000.

IF YOU HAVE ANY PHOTOGRAPHS OF EVENTS IN THE HALL CAN WE PLEASE BORROW THEM FOR THE DISPLAY WE WANT TO PUT ON FOR THE JUDGES. PLEASE GIVE PHOTOS TO BARBARA OR GILL ASAP. (Old School or 19 Griffin Road).

Fund raising in the village has been tremendous. Thanks to everyone who has organised an event and to all of you who have supported and given so generously. The total raised to date is £4665.16. We have spent £2491.69 on surveys, architect plans, card printing and event expenses. This leaves a total of £2173.47 which will be part of the village’s Restoration Fund contribution along with income from forthcoming events.

Cards

Remember that there are still cards available so why not use them as your Christmas card this year to show off your village and support the Village Hall. To order call 467125 / 430501.

A number of other fund raising events are in the pipeline so keep a look out for notices in the village and please come along and give your support. If you can offer practical support in terms of fund raising please contact Gill or Barbara or a Village Hall committee member.

Hallowe’en celebration

Attached is the information about the Hallowe’en event. It was such a great success last year that Stephanie and Angela have offered to run it again. If you can help in any way please do so, otherwise please be generous when the children come to call on Thur 27 Oct.

Parish Council Questionnaire

The PC has distributed a questionnaire to the village about use of the school. Your comments and replies are very important. Please fill it in and add your comments then return it ASAP.
